On the rooftop of Rockefeller Center this morning, Omega announced a new ambassador as the golf arms races heats up. You see, Omega is the official timekeeper of the PGA (what that entails is anybody’s guess as golf isn’t really a time-sensitive sport) and it appears as though with the likes of Richard Mille’s boy Bubba winning the Masters, Rolex’s Tiger winning three tournaments this year already, and AP having a fleet of top-tier players, they decided to name one of golf’s most steady and likeable players and someone who will undoubtedly receive lots of media attention in the coming months as ambassador.
Davis Love III has not only won 35 professional tournaments, but he has also played in six Ryder Cups, and this year, he will be the captain of the US Ryder Cup team. With joining the Omega squad, Love received a special Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra “Captain’s Watch” that is completely unique – customized with the Ryder Cup logo and his name on the back and rotor.
The watch is 41.5mm and uses Omega’s Co-Axial caliber 8500 with silicon balance spring. Omega claims this watch, while certainly not designed to be worn while playing golf, can withstand regular play, should Love want not want to remove the watch while on the course. All members of the US Ryder Cup team will also receive a similiar special edition watch.
