This Uni-Compax is another example of the stunning brushed dials that Universal Geneve was offering to its different lines of chronographs. We had featured the three-register version on several occasions, no later than last week’s Bring A Loupe for instance, but this 36 mm two-register is definitely worthy of a mention. Actually, it was recently auctioned for close to $4,500 here so it will be interesting to see where it ends on eBay. Note that the seller indicates the need for a service, the lume dot at 4 o’clock is gone and I am not sure the signed crown is original to the watch. Furthermore, I have strong doubts about its handset, as I would have expected thinner hands for the sub-registers, as displayed in an original ad that I was able to find; that said, the dauphine hands for the hours and minutes are fine.
UPDATE: It seems that the metal of the case is incorrectly described in the listing as of “stainless steel” while it is chrome plated, which would even more raise the suspicions on this problematic Universal Geneve, probably coming with a non factory case. The list of issues starts to be really long here…
