Starting with the details I like, the central seconds hand is elongated in reference to Gordon’s height (he was 6′ 6″) and gold-plated in homage to the brass color of his saxophone. The instrument is also reference at 12 o’clock, where the index is shaped like a saxophone reed. You wouldn’t know the last bit if you weren’t looking for it and it doesn’t scream “this is a music-themed watch” too loudly.

However, I could definitely have done without Dexter Gordon’s name on the dial. The 12 letters, printed on the periphery of the dial above the hour markers, are not a major distraction, but the idea feels overthought and kind of unnecessary. The signature on the back, however, “Long Tall Dex” is much better and doesn’t get in the way of the watch’s otherwise sleek look.
