Panerai CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué, has his job cut out for him, moving the classic tool manufacturer into a new chapter after the retirement of longtime CEO and living legend Angelo Bonati. Panerai had a strong SIHH, with clearer product segmentation and watches linked to special experiences. When it comes to these new references, I was pleased to see the use of micro-rotors in three of the four, slimming the case thicknesses down. The domed crystal adds a touch of vintage love that Paneristi worldwide will celebrate.
Panerai has always been about the sandwich dial, and I was pleased to see all four watches utilizing them here. The 45mm sizing works practically while honoring tradition, but I do fear the 48mm ceramic case may be a little punchy for most wrists to handle. That said, the deep green pigmented dials are tremendous, independent of current trends, with a warm depth that really needs to be seen in the metal to be appreciated. The dial, the domed crystal, and the movements combine to make what is to my mind a nicely balanced quadrafecta from Panerai.
