Do you want to see something truly beautiful? Look at this Vacheron Constantin from 1948 and you’ll see a thing of classical integrity that translates perfectly to today’s aesthetic.  This is one of the best looking and all around “special” dress watches we’ve come across in quite some time, and it’s up for sale in this week’s NY auction.

This Vacheron Constantin (then “Vacheron & Constantin”) is an exceptionally beautiful timepiece.  What make it so special are a few things.  First, it features an original “star dial”, where small applied stars make up the majority of the hour markers.  This is a desirable trait from watches of this period as it is simply a fun, and rare variation on a traditional arabic or stick dial.  Second, the lugs of this watch are archetypically Vacheron Constantin.  VC is known for their lugs, and the “teardrop” shape of these is really incredible, giving the watch an fantastic fit to the wrist, and trademark Vacheron appearance.

Finally, the size of this watch really adds to the beauty.  Despite being a product of 1948, it is at least 36mm in diameter, maybe even 38mm, which gives you plenty of room to really admire the beautiful cream star-dial along with the concentric seconds track, and makes it large enough to wear today.

Everything on this watch is original (including the crown!) and the dial is totally untouched.  This large and very special vintage Vacheron & Constantin is expected to bring between $6500 and $8500 when it comes to auction later this week via Antiquorum.  If you’re looking for a truly breathtaking vintage dress watch, this as good as it gets in our eyes.
